One picture is worth a thousand words, or so they say. Thus, this blog will be mostly pictures. German emigrants, having no cameras, had to store pictures of the "old homeland" in "their minds'
eyes." Surely the images faded as the years went by. Fortunately, I can stop the fading of my memory pictures with pictures from my own camera, and the photography skills/pictures of some very kind residents of the "Alte Heimat"
These photos are from Zerf and Oberzerf and were taken from 2001 to 2004. None of us can step back in time to see the villages and the fields exactly as they were in the first half of the 19th century - except with our imaginations. But today Mother Earth still produces the trees and grasses, insects and birds that flourished in the earlier times as well as the streams that helped sustain them.
